A personal Online Gallery for Original Prints

We are an online gallery specialising in original, signed prints by modern British and international artists, including David Hockney, Howard Hodgkin, Patrick Caulfield, Eduardo Paolozzi, Bridget Riley, Julian Trevelyan, Barbara Hepworth, Picasso and many more.

The business is run by me, Lindy McNair. I grew up in the North East of England surrounded by art: my father was a dealer in Victorian paintings, so pictures, frames, catalogues and long trips to auctions in a Volvo estate were part of everyday life long before I thought of making a business from them. I moved to Edinburgh to study, and after working in several different fields, including as a web developer at a large digital agency, I was lucky enough to turn my long-standing interest in prints into a full-time business.

In 2016 we moved to Summerhall, an arts and Fringe Festival venue in Edinburgh,  Summerhall is a lively arts and cultural community in the heart of Edinburgh, home to artists, designers, galleries, studios and creative businesses.

Although ModernPrints sells mainly online, being based in a real arts building matters. It keeps the business connected to a wider creative community and gives us access to excellent local photography, framing, printing and conservation expertise when needed.

Carefully sourced original prints

ModernPrints specialises in original, usually editioned, prints: lithographs, screenprints, etchings, aquatints, woodcuts and other works conceived and produced as prints by the artist. We are careful about the difference between original prints, posters, reproductions and later facsimiles, and we do not sell decorative reproductions as original prints.

Every print is chosen, researched, photographed and described with care. Some are by major names, some are by artists who deserve to be better known, and some are simply prints I think are beautiful, unusual or particularly good examples of an artist’s work.

Clear descriptions and photographs

Buying art online depends on trust, so each listing includes as much useful information as possible: artist, title, date, medium, edition size, publisher, printer, signature, sheet size, image size, catalogue references, provenance and condition, where available.

In 2019 ModernPrints began working with copystand.co.uk, another Summerhall-based business, to improve the accuracy of the website images using specialist photographic equipment.

Authenticity and confidence

Every print sold by ModernPrints is guaranteed to be authentic for its lifetime and comes with our Certificate of Authenticity (CoA).

You can never ask too many questions when buying art. Whether you are a first-time buyer or an experienced collector, I am always happy to provide extra photographs, condition details or information about a print.
