Rare, original lithograph in colours on handmade Barcham Green watermarked wove paper. Signed Barbara Hepworth in pencil lower left, dated 1958, and numbered from the small limited edition of 30 lower right. Printed at Curwen Studio and published by Curwen Prints Ltd. Size of frame: 65cm x 51cm.

In good condition, laid to card and stable, witth strong colours, and very nicely re-framed (with conservation-standard materials) in its original frame. Small and perfectly formed: an extremely scarce and collectable, very early 1950s Barbara Hepworth lithograph with only a couple of auction sale results that we can find. There is a copy of Mycenae in the V&A in London.

During the pilot phase of Curwen Studio, which was set up out of Curwen Press, in 1958/59, a print was made from this same image. Stanley Jones has suggested that it should be described as a 'unique experimental print' and would have been published by Robert Erskine.
