David MACH Big Heid  (1993)

SOLD Get an Email Alert if it's listed again

Sculpture made from painted plastic tubes on painted wood plinth base. Signed Mach and dated 1993. Height: 820mm (including base).

This is a maquette or preliminary study for David Mach's huge Public Art piece Big Heids, visible from the M8 between Edinburgh and Glasgow installed in 1999. Good condition with one or two missing small pieces which are hardly noticeable.

Installed in 1999, David Mach's 'Big Heids' consists of three 10m high 'heads' built up from thousands of welded steel sections. Each of these heads is an actual portrait modelled from life from volunteers in North Lanarkshire. The 'Heids' were constructed at Motherwell Bridge Holdings Ltd, the Lanarkshire-based engineering group who were one of the main sponsors of the project
