Movements, Male, Hand-spring over man’s back, plate 364 of 781 original collotypes from Eadweard Muybridge's portfolio, Animal Locomotion (1887), naked handspring over another naked man. Printed with Muybridge’s letterpress credit, series title, plate number and date on a two-tone sheet

There is a slight wave to the sheet, and the margins have noticeable marks, wear and staining, as well as a tear to the upper left sheet edge, all of which will be completely covered by mounting and framing. The image itself and close surrounding margin is in good condition. An original plate and not a reprint, this is a beautiful and rare collotype by Muybridge, with incredible detail in the many frames that is definitely better in the flesh than on the screen! This print is mounted and ready to frame

The research and photography for Animal Locomotion was carried out for the University of Pennsylvania in 1884-1885, using and improving the techniques developed in the 1870s. Of the 781 plates, 95 were devoted to the horse and 124 to other animals. The other 562 are devoted to men, women, and children, nude, semi-nude, and draped, walking, running, dancing, getting up and lying down, wrestling, boxing, leaping...
