Bernard Cheese (1935-2013) was born in Sydenham and studied at Beckenham School of Art. He then served four years in the army and enrolled at the Royal College of Art in 1947.
At the Royal College, he became an enthusiastic lithographer under the teaching of Edward Bawden, John Nash and Edwin la Dell. He then went on to teach printmaking at St Martins School of Art and later at Goldsmiths College, London.
Cheese was an enthusiastic observer of everyday life in Britain. He was an excellent draughtsman and storyteller creating lively and colourful prints and watercolours
