Alan DAVIE Mosque Dream  (2003)
NOT a print, but an original oil painting on board, Opus 0.1369, float-mounted and beautifully framed and ready to hang. Signed and titled on the reverse. Provenance: purchased from Gimpel Fils Gallery, London, the gallery who represented the artist for much of his life, with their stock label to reverse. In excellent original condition. Size including frame: 48cm x 53cm.
A rather fantastic, zingy, eye-catching and recognisable abstract oil painting by Alan Davie, one of the greatest Scottish artists of the 20th century, in a 'comfortable' size that will enhance any interior setting
As a jazz musician, Davie was concerned with the importance of intuition and improvisation, as expressed in the form of enigmatic signs through his paintings and printmaking. He was inspired by American Abstract Expressionism as well as Surrealism and the Cobra group. He developed his own unique form of expression combining mythic imagery and inspiration from African and Oceanic Art as well as Zen Buddhism.
