Patrick CAULFIELD Candle  (1973)

£2,495

An original screenprint in black and white inks. Signed lower left in pencil Patrick Caulfield and numbered from the small and rare edition of 95: it is likely that this edition was only ever given to friends of the artist. Annotated and dedicated 'for Robert de Smet', possibly the Belgian-born artist/photographer (1906-1982), and 'Europalia, 73'. Europalia is a major international arts festival held every two years to celebrate an invited country's cultural heritage. It was established in Brussels in 1969, and 1973 was the year it celebrated Great Britain's cultural heritage. Image size: 236mm x 180mm. Unframed.

In very good condition, the sheet possibly trimmed but still with large margins.  We can provide framing & courier delivery for an additional £300. An incredibly beautiful and very rare little Patrick Caulfield print which is not included in the artist's Catalogue Raisonne The Complete Prints 1964-1999 by Alan Cristea.

Patrick Caulfield's flat, graphic style has two and three dimensions constantly jockeying for position. Candle is reduced to Caulfield’s trademark thick, black lines - but the image of the Candle still jumps out.
