Cloud Atomic Laboratory is further evidence of Paolozzi's need to experiment and of his interest in using the expert skills of others. The etching process used here is usually only used in commercial printing and is basically photographic. As Paolozzi said himself, ‘The original images were taken from a wide variety of sources and were often extremely small. They were retouched by a professional retoucher and then photo etched.’
